Chateau Hordosse is situated 5kilometres from the pretty market town of Nerac, where Henri 1V of France held court.
Nerac is situated on the river Baise and one can find many bars and restaurants situated over looking the river with it’s passing traffic of motor cruisers and canoes. One can take a boat ride from the quay in order to get a riverside perspective of the area or walk in the park d’Albret alongside the river with it’s leafy paths and picturesque fountains.
Nerac is famous for it’s Saturday morning market where one can find local produce in abundance. Nerac also house all the usual amenities such as supermarkets, banks and pharmacies.
Gascony is a beautiful and diverse region with it’s rolling hills, broad valleys and numerous bastide towns to explore. Famous internationally for it’s cuisine and fine wines.
During the summer months, one can visit evening markets and sample local cuisine served in the squares of several local bastide towns. This cuisine includes “Escargolade”- snail evening, local pates, exquisite local gateaux and of course the local wines.
An alternative way of viewing the local area is to take the Tourist Train from Nerac to Mezin where you will observe much of the local flora and forna and pass slowly by some beautiful historic buildings.
